Due to a confluence of circumstances beyond the organizers' control the
Science Lounge event at Noche Lounge is cancelled.    We had an enthusiastic show of support for the first two events and hope to return to regularly scheduled events soon.   The Science Lounge organizers offer our thanks to everyone that participated and spread the word about our mission and our events.  If you have any questions please contact Lili Kelly at lkelly@cafescientifique.org.   We'll keep in touch.

Title:

Can old(er) brains learn new tricks?

Speaker:

Helmut V.B. Hirsch, Distinguished Teaching Professor of Biological Sciences, SUNY Albany

No, we’re not impressionable children anymore. Nature and nurture had their way with us. For better, or worse, we are what we are … or are we? Research shows that our brains continue to be flexible in unexpected ways. Learn how.
If you've heard Dr. Hirsh on WMAC's Science Forum then you already know how he can make the most complex ideas understandable.

Grab a science-themed cocktail and learn what scientists know about the mind's growth potential ... and what for now will just have to remain a mystery.

Date:

Tuesday, September 11th at 6:00 p.m

Title:

Could Albany become energy-independent?

Speaker:

Nag Patibandla
At this kickoff event we will consider how Albany could become energy independent.  How far would solar panels on every roof top, hybrids in every garage and fuel cells in every backyard take us?  What emerging technologies offer the greatest promise?  Dr. Nag Patibandla, Director of the Center for Future Energy Systems and Research Professor at RPI, will be our expert guide to the energy technology of our future.
