The zebra mussel arrived in Ireland thirteen years ago and has changed the ecology of many lakes. It has consequences for human activities and can not be eradicated. Other invaders are on the way!

J D Bernal: the sage of science

Description:

Organised by the Munster Group of the Institute of Physics in Ireland.

 

This talk commemorates the fascinating life and work of Nenagh-born physicist, John Desmond Bernal.

 

His academic career focussed on crystallography and structural biology and lead to pioneering work in identifying the structure of various molecules including DNA. He was instrumental in organising the D-Day landings, and also took an interest in designing space habitats – the ‘Bernal Sphere’.

This cafe will be held at the Millennium Theatre, Moylish Park Campus, Limerick Institute of Technology.
