Manchester Cafe

Launched March 2003 - suspended 2006

Peter Fell welcomes attendees at the opening of Cafe Scientifique, Manchester

Special Cafe - one night only - Tuesday 27 October 2009

Manchester was one of the first cities in the UK to have its own cafe scientifique. Sadly, the cafe came to a halt when the organiser moved on but it was revived - for one night only (but who knows what might come of it?) - as part of the Walking with Robots festival at Manchester Science Festival.

Date:

Tuesday 27th October 2009 6.30-8.30pm
Where: Manchester Museum Cafe Muse

Title:

Walking with robots - what are the questions?
Description: Our speakers -- whose aim will be to provoke and stimulate a wide-ranging discussion -- will be:

Noel Sharkey (University of Sheffield)

Gerard McKee (University of Reading)

Martin Brown (University of Manchester)

Join in an evening's conversation about current issues in robotics. Noel, Gerard and Martin will briefly talk about their work but the focus of the evening is on discussion. What concerns you about developments in robotics? What do you hope robots will be able to do for you in the future? Would you like to have a robot pet? Could robots and humans work together? What will happen if (or when) robots are able to think for themselves? Part of Manchester Science Festival.
